The Power of Positive Belief

Featured this month on our website as part of our Less Time Banking More Time Living video series is local motivational speaker, Bruce Boguski. Bruce sat down with us to discuss some practices and thoughts that he’s seen utilized in making business owners/operators successful. One of the concepts he presented was the power of positive belief. In this short video, he explains 3 actions a person can take to develop a positive belief in oneself and in turn provide empowerment when faced with stressful situations.

  1. Make positive moments so large they help you through negative situations. We have a tendency to focus on the bad moments and wonder “what if I’d done something differently”. This kind of thinking doesn’t work according to Bruce. You can’t go back in time and change things so these situations are a good time to remember the blessings in your life. Bruce suggests starting a journal and writing down 3 things each evening that were positive that happened to you.
  2. Learn to live in the “now”. According to Bruce, the only moment you can control is the one that’s happening right now. You can’t change the past and you can’t see the future. By focusing on each moment at a time you make choices that can have a positive impact on your life.
  3. Practice affirmation training. This involves saying positive things about you to yourself. These statements must always be in the first person, present tense and like they’re already happening to you. The example Bruce uses is, “I am always calm and confident under pressure.” He explains by making these statements over and over and using different inflections it trains your brain to focus, allowing you to have positive thoughts prior to entering a negative situation.
